The Heart of Nepal in the Heart of Edinburgh

Experience 25 years of authentic Himalayan hospitality. From handmade momos to aromatic mountain curries, we bring the genuine flavours of Kathmandu to West Maitland Street.

Our Story: A Legacy of Flavour Since 1997

The Khukuri is more than just a restaurant; it is a gateway to the Himalayas. Named after the legendary curved blade of the Gurkhas, a symbol of bravery and heritage, we have been a beloved fixture of Edinburgh’s West End for over two decades.

Our kitchen is led by chefs recruited from the finest restaurants in Nepal, blending traditional

techniques with fresh, locally sourced Scottish produce. We use authentic Himalayan herbs like Jimbu

(wild mountain onion) and Timur (Szechuan-style peppercorn) to ensure every bite transports you

to the foothills of Mt. Everest.

What Our Diners Say About Us

The food here was EXCELLENT. Some of the best nepalese food I’ve ever had. From the service, to the meal itself, it was top tier. Best meal I had while in Edinburgh and reasonably priced. A true hidden gem.

The waitresses are genuinely friendly and make you feel really welcome. We had the momo dumplings and the pani puri to start — both delicious. However, my biggest recommendation is to order the 10‑piece dumplings. We only ordered 4 and instantly wished we had more!
It’s my second time at this restaurant and honestly still a 10/10 experience!!!
Literally had the most amazing food at Khukuri! I stayed in Edinburgh for 2 nights and both nights I had dinner at Khukuri. The lovely Jenisha guided me on how to eat my Thali, and pani puri as it was my first time having both! A must visit and now a favourite of mine. I will be back in the summer and will most definitely be spending my evenings here. Excellent food, excellent service!
